It’s been a couple of busy weeks in European football, particularly from June 24 to September 1 when the 2023/24 transfer window was on full stretch. Now that the window has been shut only to be opened in January, Sixsports takes a look at the five biggest deals that were completed on the deadline day across all top 5 leagues.

Amrabat’s loan move to Manchester United.

Manchester United’s link to Florentina’s Sofyan Amrabat is one that stole headlines all through the transfer window, with diverse sources claiming the Moroccan international had agreed personal terms with the Mancunian giants weeks before the September deadline.

Following his stellar performances with Morocco at the Qatar 2023 World Cup, the midfielder attracted a couple of potential suitors, but rumours have it that he was ready to wait out the transfer to United.

On United’s path, it was almost looking like a repetition of Cody Gakpo’s saga, but the injury to Mason Mount, Kobe Maino, coupled with Erik Ten Hag’s side’s lethargic start to the season probably forced the board’s hands, and it wasn’t a surprise made a last-ditch loan swoop for the  27-year-old, in a deal worth €10 million that also contains an option to buy for €20 million plus €5 million in possible bonuses.

Barcelona’s double swoop for the Joaos.

Barcelona unarguably had the best transfer deadline day, after managing to sign both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City respectively on loan without shedding a dime on transfer fees.

It was an escape route for the Portuguese players who weren’t having the best of times at their Parent clubs, making it easy for Joan Laporta to broker the deals.

Gravenberch to Liverpool

Just a few hours before the window closure, Liverpool announced the signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich on a five-year deal that cost them about 40m plus €5m in add-ons.

The midfielder comes in as the Reds’ fourth midfield option following the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominick Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo who all came in as replacereplacementsrdan Henderson and Fabinho.

 Greenwood to Getafe

For Mason Greenwood, it looked like he was set for another few months without footballing action after Manchester United confirmed that he wouldn’t continue his career at the club following the saga with his partner.

However, the transfer day deadline saw Getafe move for the Englishman after a deal with Lazio collapsed, and the rest now becomes history. The United academy has now been handed a lifeline opportunity to rejuvenate his career.

Randal Kolo Muani to PSG

Paris Saint Germain seized the subtle overhaul in the squad to complete a forward trilogy of French players. Having gotten Ousmane Dembele earlier in the window to join Kylian Mbappe, the French giants left it late to complete the signing of Randal Kolo Muani from a €90m deal from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 24-year-old who according to Fabrizio Romano forced a move publicly and privately to complete his dream move to the Parc des Princes signed a five-year deal with PSG in the closing hours of the transfer window.
