It’s a beautiful night for the fans of Nigerian football, as the duo of Victor James Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala won the 2023 African Men and Women’s Footballer of the Year respectively.
Osimhen’s win is coming on the back of an impressive 2022/23 league campaign with Napoli, where he scored 26 goals from 32 Serie A appearances to help the Partenopei win the Scudetto.
The 24-year-old international becomes the first Nigerian to win the award in the past 24 years since Kano Nwankwo Kanu last won it in 1999.

Asisat Oshoala on the other hand has now won a record sixth African Women’s Player of the Year award, with this year’s largely due to her exploits with Barcelona Femeni’s UEFA Women’s Champions League success last season.
