Prior to England’s final World Cup group match against China, Sarina Wiegman remained silent about Keira Walsh’s health. However, after defeating both Haiti and Denmark 1-0 in Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the Lionesses are aiming to make it three wins in a row.

In the course of defeating Danes, they lost midfielder Walsh to injury, but there was good news when worries about a potential anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury were allayed.

Still, Wiegman refused to say definitively whether Walsh would feature again in the tournament – although she did rule her out of the China game. “We said that it’s not an ACL; I can’t give you any more information,” Wiegman said.

“We are only focusing on the game tomorrow. After that we will continue. We have a strong enough team. Every game we want to be at our best. We know she’s not available. We have a group of 23 so now we have a group of 22. We have our solutions – and we’ll show that.”

Walsh replacement in the center of the park against China might be one of Wiegman’s possibilities, along with Manchester United’s Katie Zelem and Manchester City’s Laura Coombs. The Lionesses are aware that a win on Tuesday will advance them to the round of 16 as Group D champions.

Depending on whether Wiegman’s team win or finish second in their group, China will play on Tuesday, followed by either co-hosts Australia or Nigeria in the round of 16.
