Rafael Nadal has officially pulled out from the U.S. Open on Wednesday, a week after reaching the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles at the Olympics with Carlos Alcaraz.

The 22-time grand slam champion is set to miss yet another grand slam event after already missing three slam tournaments this season whilst raising more questions about his future in tennis at age 38.

Nadal, who was eliminated from the 2024 Olympics games in Paris by arch rival Novak Djokovic in straight sets at the second round and lost a quarter final clash in the doubles alongside teammate Carlos Alcaraz, took to his social media account to announce his withdrawal from the US open which is to commence on August 26th.

“Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open a place where I have amazing memories”, He posted on X, formerly twitter.

“I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time”.

“Thanks to all my US Fans in particular, will miss you all and will see you another time. Best of lucks to all for the always amazing US Open!,” he added.

Nadal, who has not announced his retirement, will play at the Laver Cup in September but not the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open.

“My next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin,” Nadal concluded.

The 38-year-old Spaniard is a four-time champion at Flushing Meadows but has only played once there since he last won the title in 2019.

Rafael Nadal will now finish a season without a single Grand Slam main draw win for the first time since 2002.
