Rio Ngumoha posted a farewell message to Chelsea, as he moves to Liverpool. The teenage winger, Ngumoha, who was part of the Blues’ academy until last season, has now completed a move to their rivals camp.
The 16-year-old sent a brief but heartfelt farewell message to his previous team after signing with the Reds. Taking to Instagram, Ngumoha shared some throwback photographs from his early days at the West London club and wrote in the caption: “Thank you for everything Chelsea Academy.”
It was first reported in July that the 16-year-old had decided to leave Chelsea. He chose to move to Anfield but the switch had to get approval from the Premier League. Such a process is standard when a player moves between academies.
When the Blues’ U16 team won the national championship in October of last year, Ngumoha was awarded Player of the Tournament. In January 2024, the player was promoted to the club’s U21 team after impressing with his steady performances. The youthful winger will initially play for the club’s U18 squad after accepting the Reds’ scholarship offer. Ngumoha has been called among the greatest players in the nation for his age group and has played for England at the U16 level.
