Nigeria and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 Men Ballon d’Or award, making him the only African player in the list.this year’s Ballon d’Or.

This came after his stellar 23/24 season where he helped Atalanta to the Europa league trophy. He also helped qualify for the Champions League, Coppa Italia final and Nigeria to the AFCON final.

Lookman was Atalanta’s most impressive player last season. After losing 1-0 to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final, Atalanta thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final.

Lookman scored the three goals for Atalanta, becoming the first-ever player to achieve the feat in the history of the competition.

He’s the second Nigerian in two years to be nominated, after Victor Osimhen last year.

English League One club, Charlton Athletic have sent congratulatory message to their academy graduate for his 2024 Ballon d’Or award nomination.

Reacting, Charlton wrote on their X handle, “Academy graduate Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 @BallondOr! We’re so proud of you, @Alookman.”

Lookman joined Charlton Athletic’s academy in 2014 after signing from Waterloo, a London youth football.

He went on to join Everton, Leipzig, Fulham, Leicester City, before switching to Atalanta in 2022.

The Nigeria international struggled for consistency during his time in England, but has been reinvigorated since joining Atalanta. He has scored 32 goals and assisted 18 in 72 games, winning the Europa League title.

And his breathtaking 12 months has earned him a place on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

The Nigerian international will battle for the award with football stars like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Rodri, among others.

Aside Lookman, Atalanta head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, was nominated for the Coach of the Year award.
