Korea DPR dominated Austria to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

The Asian champions had a resounding 5-2 victory as ten-woman Austria were eliminated in Medellin.

The Koreans made it 22 goals in just four matches at the tournament

It took them just three minutes to get going as Sin Hyang sent a rocket into the Austrian goal. However, the tournament debutants struck back just eight minutes later through a thumping header from Valentina Maedl.

Austria made things difficult as Nicole Ojukwu was shown a second yellow just shy of the half hour.

The two-time champions took advantage of the extra player not long after. Sin Hyang got her second and gave North Korea the lead as she swept home from near the penalty spot.

They went further ahead eight minutes after the restart as Kim Kang-mi bundled home from close range. Ten-woman Austria reduced the deficit when a deep free-kick saw Han Hong-ryon nod into her own goal.

However, a fine solo effort from Chae Un-yong made it four as she burst into open space, through a couple of Austrian challenges and fired past Mariella El Sherif.

Pak Mi-ryong then made it five for the evening as she strode unchallenged towards goal, with a tidy finish to cap another dominating win.

The Koreans will face Brazil on Sunday for the quarter finals clash.

Germany are through to the quarter finals of the 2024 U20 Women’s World Cup after a dominating victory over Argentina.

Cora Zicai and Sophie Nachtigall starred to help propel Germany to a resounding round of 16 triumph over Argentina.

Germany won 5-1, courtesy of goals from Mathilde Janzen, Sophie Nachtigall, Loreen Bender and Cora Zicai. Delfina Lombardi scored the consolation goal for Argentina.

Germany produced a breathtaking display of attacking firepower in the first 45 minutes, as they scored four in the first interval.

Mathilde Janzen opened the scoring for Germany in the sixth minutes before Nachtigall headed in Bender’s cross to make it two in the 26th minutes.

Bender also got into the scorebook, two minutes later to make it 3-0. She volleyed a cross from Zicai to extend the advantage. The Europeans added one more as Nachtigall sent a stunning free kick into the back of the net, to get her second of the game.

Argentina got their consolation, though, as Delfina Lombardi pounced on a mistake and fired home for a 4-1 half-time scoreline.

La Albiceleste were an improved side in the second stanza, but Germany remained in control. They continued the riot as Zicai also got onto the scoresheet midway through to round out the 5-1 final scoreline.

Germany will now face USA for the quarter finals tie.
