Manchester United will open their Carabao Cup charge on Tuesday night when they take on Barnsley. Man United entered the EFL competition at the third round stage due to their Europa League qualification this season.

The cup holds a special place in Erik Ten Hag’s heart after winning the trophy in his first season at the Theatre of Dreams. Unfortunately, the retention of the Carabao Cup last season fell flat. After beating Crystal Palace in the third round 3-0, Manchester United lost to Newcastle United in the last-16. United had previously beaten Newcastle in the 2023 showpiece.

United will have to play without a few players at Old Trafford if they are to advance to the next championship round. Luke Shaw is still improving, but according to Ten Hag, the Tuesday (8 p.m.) match would be too soon for the England regular.

Rasmus Hojlund and Victor Lindelof are in the same situation as Shaw due to Lindelof’s persistent toe injury. Mason Mount sustained an injury before the crushing defeat to Liverpool, and he will be out for this match. Though it should not be too long until he returns.

The only other long-term injuries on the team are Tyrell Malacia and Leny Yoro. Yoro is scheduled to rejoin the group in either November or December. While Malacia is anticipated to return around October.

ADonovan Pines, the visitors’ center back, won’t be available. Darrell Clarke would be much missed by his team, since they conceded three goals to Stevenage following his half-time departure due to a concussion.

Fabio Jalo, a striker for the team, is also anticipated to miss out after suffering a shoulder injury against Derby County during the preseason.
