Brighton defeated Wolves 3-2 to guarantee their place in the fourth round in the Carabao cup match. Long-range goals from Simon Adingra (31) and Carlos Baleba (14) gave Brighton a two-goal advantage, as Wolves did very little to nothing for the most of the first half.

Just before the half ended, Goncalo Guedes (44) turned Matt Doherty’s cut back to cut the score in half, giving Gary O’Neil’s team a lifeline. Following the intermission, Wolves consistently outperformed the other team.

With newfound vigor, the visitors almost equalized when Jason Steele touched Nelson Semedo’s cross onto Adam Webster. And the ball moved agonizingly towards goalpost.

Nevertheless, Josh Hinshelwood materialized to clear the ball off the line.Guedes had yet another great opportunity, but Wolves were unable to take advantage of it as the forward missed the mark with only Steele standing in his way.

Towards extra time, Tommy Doyle capitalised on some poor defending from the hosts to fire in a shot off the underside of the crossbar.

It proved to be only a consolation as Brighton held on to book their place in the draw for the last-16. This takes place next Wednesday (September 25).Wolves’ have now won just once season – in the second round against Championship side Burnley.

The Carabao Cup fourth round draw will take place following the conclusion of Liverpool vs West Ham on Wednesday September 25.
