On Wednesday night, FC Twente ‘wanted it more’ than Manchester United, according to Christian Eriksen.

Erik ten Hag started just three players different from the starting lineup against Crystal Palace last weekend, assembling a formidable squad to take on Twente in the Europa League.

From the opening, Marcus Rashford appeared to be a dangerous left-wing player. But in the 35th minute, Eriksen scored a fantastic goal into the top corner to give United the lead.

Eriksen was starting for the fourth time in a row, and he had an unstoppable goal. The midfield player’s last few weeks had been filled with success. However, in the second half, he turned from hero to villain when he lost the ball. This allowed Sam Lammers to equalize for Twente.

Ten Hag made many changes in response, but United was unable to make another breakthrough. Harry Maguire’s header in extra time proved to be the game’s final opportunity.

After the game, Twente’s players celebrated as though they had won. Given that United had appeared confident and in charge when leading 1-0, the draw seemed almost like a loss.

Eriksen emerged to speak to TNT Sports and made a surprising admission when he revealed that he thought Twente’s players wanted a result more than United on the pitch.

“We wanted more, but in the end, it was far from good enough. We said in the changing room that it looked like they wanted it more and that can’t be right.

“I think personally, you score a goal and think you’re a match-winner, but obviously it’s gone the other way. Everyone is looking at themselves. Everyone is a professional footballer.

“They know what to do, what can’t happen and in a game like today, we didn’t lose but it felt like a loss and against FC Twente at home, that can’t happen.”
