Barcelona’s perfect start to the 2024-25 season has ended after an embarrassing 4-2 loss to Osasuna away from home.
Hansi Flick’s side suffered their first loss in the league after a horrendous match at the El Sadar stadium.
The hosts also defended almost perfectly and were quite incredible on the counter-attack. They deservedly handed the Blaugrana their first league defeat of the season in an emphatic fashion.
Osasuna made a brilliant start to the game, and were rewarded with the opening goal. Pablo Torre gave the ball away in midfield as the home team counter-attacked quickly. Bryan Zaragoza’s brilliant cross from the left wing found Ante Budimir who put the home team in front.
The Catalans continued to struggle and were made to pay again just before the half-hour mark. Aimar Oroz played a brilliant through ball to find Bryan’s run, and the youngster rounded Iñaki Peña before doubling the lead.
Barcelona started to find their rhythm and almost got a goal. However, a great save from Sergio Herrera denied Robert Lewandowski goal attempt.
Few seconds after, an error from Herrera allowed Barça pull one back. The goalkeeper gave the ball away near his own box and then failed to claim an easy shot from Pau Víctor from 30 yards.
The visitors looked closer to the equalizer when Ferran Torres almost scored an incredible solo goal, but Herrera made another brilliant save.
Osasuna killed Barca’s hope as they made it 3-1 from te penalty spot. Sergi Domínguez fouled Budimir in the box and the striker made it count from the spot to score his second and restored their two-goal lead.
They later sealed the win as Abel Bretones took the ball from Lamine Yamal and fired a rocket into the bottom corner. Yamal made up for his mistake with a spectacular strike to make the game 4-2, more like a consolation.
Barca will still top of the table regardless of Madrid derby’s result on Sunday, despite the loss. However, the 100% record is over for the Catalans.
