Cameroon football icon, Samuel Eto’o has been banned by FIFA from attending any national team games for six months.

Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, was punished for violating conduct rules during the recent U-20 Women’s World Cup,

The former Barcelona striker faced two charges from an undisclosed incident when Cameroon faced Brazil in the round of 16.

According to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, Eto’o was judged to have breached articles 13 (“Offensive behavior and violations of fair play principles”) and 14 (“Misconduct of players and officials”) of FIFA’s Disciplinary Code.

“The ban imposed on Mr. Eto’o prevents him from attending men’s and women’s matches involving (Cameroon) teams of all categories and age groups,” FIFA said in a statement.

The 43-year-old Eto’o played for Cameroon at four World Cups and won Champions League titles with Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time the FECAFOOT president has faced controversy. He was previously involved in one for his behavior towards players and national team coach Marc Brys. He allegedly threatened them in front of cameras if his directives were not followed.

During the Qatar World Cup, the Mallorca all-time highest goalscorer also assaulted a fan who filmed him outside a stadium.

However, Eto’o is expected to be back by April, 2024, following his 6-months ban by FIFA.
