Karim Adeyemi’s first-half hat-trick led Borussia Dortmund to a commanding 7-1 victory against Celtic in the Champions League.

Dortmund controlled the game as they scored five goals in the first half.

Emre Can opened the scoring with a penalty in the seventh minute after Celtic’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel fouled Jamie Gittens.

The game looked set to be a balanced contest as Celtic responded immediately. Japanese Daizen Maeda scored from an Arne Engels cross to make it 1-1 two minutes after.

However, Dortmund quickly regained control immediately to begin their dominating victory. Young talented forward, Adeyemi restored their lead with a deflected shot off Auston Trusty in the 11th minute.

The German then extended the advantage with a powerful strike past Schmeichel to score his second of the night.

Adeyemi again got involved as he won a penalty for Serhou Guirassy to convert before completing his hat-trick.

Adeyemi made history as the second German player to score three goals in the first half of a Champions League match. The last player to achieve this was Mario Gomez for Bayern Munich against Napoli in 2011.

Guirassy also got his second to make it 6-1 and cement Dortmund’s dominance in the game.

Substitute Felix Nmecha capped it off the with a late goal, as the Scottish champions were left in great disarray.
