Nigeria kickstart their 2024 U17 Women World Cup campaign with a heavy 4-1 win over New Zealand.

The Flamingos had a high-flying attack against the Oceania, as they soared to victory to open Group A at Dominican Republic.

The African started brightly, as they scored three goals before the half-hour mark. Shakirat Moshood opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, following a through ball from Harmony Chidi.

A long-distance effort from Khadijat Adegoke that slipped through the hands of Brooke Neary extended the lead. Faridat Abdulwahab scored the third with a right-footed rocket to end the first half 3-0.

The Flamingos overwhelmed the New Zealand defence, showcasing their attacking prowess and leaving their opponents shell-shocked.

Nigeria No10 Taiwo Afolabi bossed the midfield before sealing the emphatic win. Early in the second half, she rose high to head home and make it 4.

New Zealand got a consolation after a scrambled ball from a corner was swnt into the net by Hannah Saxon.

The Flamingos who won a bronze medal at the last edition in India will return to action in their second group game against Ecuador, October 19, 2024.
