The Flamingoes of Nigeria defeated Dominican Republic 1-0, courtesy of a late wonder goal from Shakirat Moshood.
The host nation displayed solid defense but later fell to a late goal, as the Flamingos set up a second straight quarterfinal clash with USA.
Goalkeeper Jaylene Rondon also had the Dominican Republic on course for their second point, making several saves. A combination of the bar post, and various wayward finishing almost denied all three points.
However, Moshood broke the deadlock in the 89th minute. She collected the ball 25-yards from goal and launched a rocket that flew past Rondon, breaking the hosts’ hearts.
Nigeria had 36 shots in the game, with Dominican capped just three shots. The Flamingoes also had 16 corners as the hosts rarely ventured outside their own half.
Nigeria ended the group stage with three straight wins to set up a second straight quarterfinal bout with USA.
