Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a positive update on defender Gabriel’s injury during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
The Brazilian center-back was forced off the pitch in the second half after sustaining a left leg injury. Arteta allayed initial fears, confirming that the injury didn’t appear to be serious.
“We are still assessing him,” Arteta said on Tuesday. “It doesn’t look bad at all.”
Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber, who also left the field during the Liverpool match, is not believed to have suffered a setback. The Dutch defender had recently recovered from a previous injury.
“Jurrien is fine,” Arteta clarified. “He couldn’t continue the game, but there’s no new injury there at all.”
Arsenal will face Preston North End in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. While Bukayo Saka successfully returned to the squad, Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori remain sidelined. William Saliba, who was suspended against Liverpool, is available for selection.
