“The WTA announced Tuesday that Aryna Sabalenka and Katerina Siniakova secured the WTA year-end No.1 rankings presented by PIF,” a statement from WTA website.
“Sabalenka has earned the elite accolade in singles for the first time in her career, while Siniakova from the Czech Republic is celebrating her fourth finish in the doubles No.1 position (in addition to 2018, 2021 and 2022).
“Both players will be honored this week at the WTA Finals Riyadh presented by PIF and will receive the coveted year-end No.1 trophies,” The post reads.
The day before Wimbledon began, Aryna Sabalenka and her team gathered on Court 1 of the Aorangi Park practice facility where she was placed at No.1 in the WTA rankings and 3,744 points off Iga Swiatek who was ranked at No.1.
Wimbledon’s venerable grass venue enhances Sabalenka’s dynamic game and she had reached the semifinals in her two previous appearances. She was the No.3 seed but remained the favorite going in, and the winner’s 2,000 ranking points were a tempting, tantalizing target.
Sabalenka followed that up with her third Grand Slam singles title at the US Open. Her 15-match winning streak ended in Beijing, but she recovered to win the title in Wuhan.
