According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana suffered a muscle tear in his foot while representing Belgium.

Onana, who joined Villa from Everton during the summer transfer window, has been instrumental for Emery, starting in all 10 available league matches. The 23-year-old has also started three out of four Champions League games this season and scored three goals across all competitions.

As the Premier League enters a busy period, Aston Villa will begin making preparations for the January transfer window. Under Unai Emery, Villa has been active in most transfer windows, and the upcoming one is likely to follow suit given the players they are currently linked to.

Aston Villa has expressed interest in acquiring Kenneth Taylor, Ajax’s impressive midfielder, who has also garnered attention from Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Napoli. Ajax is willing to part with Taylor but only if they receive an offer of £29 million.

Simultaneously, Villa is contemplating a move for Manchester United’s left-back Harry Amass, a promising talent who has been on their radar since his time at Watford.

Data analyst Ben Mattinson has praised Onana, describing him as a “monster”. Tavolieri reports that Onana’s foot injury occurred during Belgium’s match against Italy on Thursday. With a weekly salary of £140,000 at Villa Park, Onana is now expected to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks.

This means he may miss Villa’s upcoming matches against Crystal Palace, Juventus, Chelsea, and Brentford. This injury marks Onana’s second setback this season, following a previous hamstring issue that kept him out of several games for both club and country.

Emery hopes that Onana’s return to Villa Park will expedite his recovery, especially with crucial league and European games on the horizon.
