Leicester manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy was pleased with his team’s character after they came from behind to draw against Brighton.
The Foxes were 2-0 down, with goals from Tariq Lamptey and Yankuba Minteh giving Brighton a solid lead late in the game. However, Jamie Vardy scored, and then assisted Bobby De Cordova-Reid to equalize in stoppage time.
This draw allowed Leicester to climb above Crystal Palace to 16th place in the Premier League, creating a five-point cushion above the relegation zone.
Van Nistelrooy praised his team for their late fightback and their ability to apply pressure. He remarked, “Coming back from 2-0 down is a great show of character. I enjoyed the second half.”
Though they earned only one point instead of three from their previous victory over West Ham, he felt the performance was better. Van Nistelrooy noted, “We controlled the game and put pressure on Brighton, one of the best teams in the league.”
On the other hand, Brighton’s coach Fabian Hurzeler was disappointed to lose their two-goal lead. His team has now failed to win two out of their last three matches after leading by two or more goals. In contrast, they had a strong run in their previous 40 matches.
Despite his disappointment, Hurzeler saw positives in the game. Ten out of the eleven starting players either had a shot or created a chance. He believes this setback will help his team improve in the future. Hurzeler stated, “We need to learn from this and finish off games. Game management must improve as we trust the process.”
