Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has been crowned the winner of 2024 FIFA Puskas Award.

The award was given to Garnacho for scoring the finest goal, which was an overhead kick against Everton, last November.

The Argentine scored the goal with less than three minutes into the contest at Goodison Park. He flew into the air just around the edge of the penalty area, and volleyed home a spectacular bicycle kick from Diego Dalot’s cross into the top corner.

Garnacho’s success makes him the second Manchester United player to win the prestigious award. Meanwhile, the first was his model and United’s legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, whose long-range strike against Porto in 2008, earned him the first ever Puskas award.

Accepting the award, Garnacho said: “I’m very proud to win this award, it’s a proud moment for me and my family. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, especially the United fans.

“It was a great finish and I worked on this in training many times, but also it was a great move from the team, so it’s impossible to be here without my team-mates.

“It was a special goal and I’ll always remember it, but there’s many more incredible moments to come with this team. We have a lot to look forward to together.”

Meanwhile, the young winger’s effort saw off 10 other strikes in contention for the famous goal trophy.
