Manchester City lost 2-1 to Aston Villa earlier today at Villa Park. Despite the defeat, Pep Guardiola said his team “played a really good game”.

As a result, City dropped to sixth place in the league, with Villa moving ahead of them. The only positive for Guardiola was that Phil Foden scored his first Premier League goal of the season.

In the match, Aston Villa took a two-goal lead with goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers. Phil Foden then scored for City, but it was not enough to change the outcome. This loss marks City’s run of just one win in their last twelve matches across all competitions.

Guardiola expressed his pride in the team’s first-half performance after the match. He stated, “Today we made a really good game.” He seems confident that they will eventually regain their form. He acknowledged the need to adjust his approach and support his players.

He mentioned that they played well in the first half, but things changed in the second half when they struggled with their pressing. He said their pressing wasn’t effective, which allowed Villa to control the game.

Although they scored a late goal, it was too late to affect the result. Guardiola pointed out that they are finding it challenging to score goals while also conceding too many.

Following this match, Villa moved into fifth place, passing City in the table. Guardiola also noted Foden’s recent improvement after a slow start to the season. He remarked, “The last one or two games, he has been better.” He acknowledged that it can be difficult when players and situations change from one season to the next.

City’s next match will be at home against Everton on Boxing Day.
