Real Madrid ended 2024 with a commanding 4-2 victory over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The result helped the hosts leapfrog Barcelona to second place on the league table, with a game on hand.
Madrid opened the scoring in the early 10th minute, as Kylian Mbappe received a pass from Rodrygo, before firing a stunner from outside the penalty area.
Ten minutes later, Los Blancos extended the lead with another stunner. Receiving the ball from a corner, Federico Valverde thundered an unstoppable effort past Sevilla goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez.
The league leaders continued to run riot as Rodrygo strikes the third goal. Following a brilliant team move, the Brazilian found the back of the net to extend the lead.
However, Sevilla pulled one back a minute after Isaac Romero headed home Juanlu Sanchez’s cross.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side restored their three-goal lead with another fine team goal, finished by Brahim Diaz. The Moroccan hasn’t scored for the club goal since August.
Meanwhile, the visitors reduced the lead to two, as Dode Lukebakio netted late to make it 4-2.
