Alex Caruso has signed a four-year, $81 million extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. This move secures Caruso’s future with the team through the 2028-29 season. The Thunder’s decision to extend Caruso’s contract reflects their commitment to building a competitive team around their young core, led by star player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Caruso has been an excellent fit for the Thunder, averaging 5.7 points and 2.4 assists while ranking sixth in the league with 1.9 steals per game. His defensive prowess has been instrumental in the Thunder’s success, particularly alongside Lu Dort. Together, they’ve formed a formidable defensive duo, contributing significantly to the team’s Western Conference-best 22-5 record.
The extension also signals the Thunder’s focus on strengthening their defensive capabilities, an area they’ve been improving since last season’s playoff loss to the Dallas Mavericks. With Caruso and center Isaiah Hartenstein, who signed a three-year, $87 million contract, the Thunder are poised to make serious playoff pushes in the coming years.
