Arsenal extended our unbeaten run at the Emirates Stadium to 17 matches with a 1-0 win against Ipswich Town on Friday night. Kai Havertz scored from a cross by Leandro Trossard, and they maintained their lead to secure another clean sheet.
Trossard started the game on the left wing and was active from the beginning. He had a shot that hit Kalvin Phillips and went out for a corner after a move initiated by William Saliba. Jurrien Timber showed bravery and initiative by moving the ball forward and then shooting straight at Arijanet Muric.
In the 23rd minute, Trossard crossed the ball to Havertz, who scored by cushioning it into the roof of the net. Declan Rice shot just over the bar from distance, and Trossard later found Gabriel Jesus, who passed to Martinelli. Martinelli managed to tap the ball in, but the goal was ruled offside.
At the start of the second half, Arsenal kept looking for another goal. Rice went down after a foul by Phillips, and Martin Odegaard hit the free-kick straight into the wall. They faced some pressure from Ipswich when Phillips sent a free-kick into the box. Rice headed it out for a corner, but we quickly responded with good teamwork involving Trossard, Odegaard, and Havertz, which led to another corner.
Rice took the following set-piece, and Gabriel headed just wide at the far post. With about 20 minutes left, Mikel Merino came on for Jesus. Muric then tipped the ball over the bar after Odegaard skillfully made his way into the box and took a shot.
Our captain’s corner led to Rice volleying toward goal, but he was blocked by Dara O’Shea. Mikel Arteta substituted Thomas Partey for Rice with four minutes left.
David Raya caught a late cross from Omari Hutchinson to clear the danger. Nathan Broadhead had a chance to shoot in added time, but Havertz blocked his attempt to help us secure all three points. That wraps up 2024 for them.
They will start 2025 with a match against Brentford on New Year’s Day. Kick-off at the Gtech Community Stadium will be at 5.30 PM in the Premier League on Wednesday.
