Sinner to pathways with coach despite second round victory

Jannik Sinner has confirmed that he will split from coach Darren Cahill at the end of the season. The highly-regarded Australian mentor will see out the 2025 campaign before stepping back from the full-time tennis circuit.

Cahill joined Sinner’s team in July 2022 and has formed a successful relationship with the world No. 1. Together, they won the Australian Open and the US Open last year.

They will hope to add more silverware to Sinner’s trophy cabinet this season. After beating Tristan Schoolkate in the second round of the Australian Open, the 23-year-old announced that they will part ways at the end of the year.

“It will be Darren’s last season as my coach,” he told Eurosport Italia at the Australian Open.

It comes two months after Cahill admitted that he will not work with another player “full-time” once his relationship with Sinner ends.

Asked how long he plans to work with the Italian, Cahill told the West Australian: “Whatever he (Sinner) wants.

“There’s always a right time to get a new voice, get new inspiration, a new set of eyes. … but everything is going really well with us at the moment.”

It was an eventful day for Sinner down under. He was forced to come from a set down against world No. 173 Schoolkate and eventually won 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.

Sinner then mocked John McEnroe during his on-court interview after the match. The American tennis icon told him: “I’m pretty emotional, generally when I have been in Italy, Italians express themselves. You were able to control yourself so well, I wanted to know how you do it?”
