Dejounte Murray’s season is indeed over due to a torn right Achilles tendon. This injury occurred during Friday’s game against the Boston Celtics, when Murray drove into the lane, took a shot, and then fell to the court, grabbing at the back of his right leg.
Murray’s absence will be deeply felt, as he was averaging 17.9 points, 7.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. The Pelicans, already struggling with a 12-37 record, will now have to rely more heavily on CJ McCollum and Jose Alvarado to fill the void left by Murray’s injury.
This is not the first serious injury Murray has faced in his career. He previously tore his right ACL in the 2018-19 preseason, which caused him to miss the entire season.
Murray’s recovery time is expected to be around a year, which means he may also miss a significant portion of next season.
