Daniel Gafford, the Mavericks’ center, suffered a sprained right knee in Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings and won’t return. The injury occurred in the second quarter when Gafford set a screen for Spencer Dinwiddie and collapsed in pain after contact. He had to be helped off the floor, adding to the Mavericks’ growing list of injured players.
This latest setback comes at a challenging time for the Mavericks, who are already dealing with injuries to Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Dwight Powell. With Gafford’s status uncertain, the team’s depth will be severely tested, especially in the competitive Western Conference.
Gafford’s absence will be deeply felt, as he’s been having a stellar season, averaging a career-high 12.5 points per game, along with impressive rebounding and shot-blocking numbers. The Mavericks will need to rely on their remaining players to step up and fill the void left by Gafford’s injury.
