The January transfer window isn’t usually known for being exciting. Last year, a kid joining Barcelona was the biggest move, and he’s now on loan at Real Betis. No transfers from 2024 made the list of the biggest January deals ever. However, in 2025, more money has been spent, especially by Manchester City. Here are 15 biggest transfers in January 2025:
Jhon Duran moved from Aston Villa to Al Nassr for £64.4m-£75.3m. Chelsea and other European giants were interested in Duran. Duran chose Saudi money over those clubs. This deal also ruined Arsenal’s plans of acquiring him.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia joined Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli for £59.1m. This figure might not be beaten. Napoli needs a replacement. Options include Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, or Karim Adeyemi.
Omar Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m-£63.2m. Manchester City spent big on Marmoush. He scored 15 goals in 17 matches for Frankfurt.
Nico Gonzalez moved from Porto to Manchester City for £49.9m. Manchester City’s January spending passed £180m with Gonzalez’s signing. Gonzalez solves Manchester City’s centre-midfield problem.
Xavi Simons joined RB Leipzig from PSG for £41.2m-£67.9m. This deal has many add-ons. It’s a massive signing for Leipzig. Leipzig isn’t known for spending big. Marcel Schäfer, Leipzig’s sporting director, said they worked hard for this transfer. It’s great for the club financially and sport-wise.
Galeno moved from Porto to Al-Ahli for £41.7m. Al-Ahli spent over £40m on Galeno. There are speculations he could threaten Roberto Firmino’s position.
Abdukodir Khusanov joined Manchester City from RC Lens for £33.7m. Khusanov is Manchester City’s first January signing. He’s a 20-year-old centre-back and will be the first Uzbek in the Premier League.
Vitor Reis moved from Palmeiras to Manchester City for £29.6m. Manchester City insisted Reis join in winter. He’s their most expensive teenage signing. Maybe Khusanov and Reis will lead Manchester City to more trophies.
Luiz Henrique joined Zenit St Petersburg from Botafogo for £27.9m. Henrique ignored interest from Fiorentina and Newcastle. He chose Russia. Artur will move in the opposite direction, and Wendel will follow.
Santiago Gimenez moved from Feyenoord to AC Milan for £26.6m-£29m. Gimenez scored 65 goals in 105 Feyenoord games. He replaces Alvaro Morata.
Patrick Dorgu joined Manchester United from Lecce for £25m-£29.1m. Manchester United needed a left wing-back. Dorgu is the first signing of the Ruben Amorim era.
Elye Wahi moved from Marseille to Eintracht Frankfurt for £21.9m. Frankfurt replaced Marmoush with Wahi.
Donyell Malen joined Aston Villa from Borussia Dortmund for £21.1m. Malen didn’t get a chance at Arsenal. He’s back in England with a point to prove. Malen brings pace to Aston Villa’s attack.
Stefanos Tzimas moved from FC Nuremburg to Brighton for £20.8m. Tzimas scored 10 goals in the German second flight. He’ll spend the rest of the season on loan at Nuremburg.
Jaden Philogene joined Ipswich from Aston Villa for £20m. Aston Villa welcomed one forward and let another go for almost the same price. Philogene returned to Villa for £18m a few months ago. He’s been shipped out after a Champions League start against Bayern Munich.
