Some Manchester United players are beginning to doubt Ruben Amorim’s system. They think his few wins are just luck. Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham was their eighth since he replaced Erik ten Hag last November.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, revealed that some players don’t seem to believe in the Portuguese gaffer’s coaching philosophy. This is the club’s worst run since they were relegated 51 years ago. Some players are “losing faith” in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. They believe the team’s wins have not come from tactics but from luck.
A source in the dressing room mentioned how the players feel after winning a match. “We got away with one, but we might not be so lucky next time.”
United has won only four out of 14 Premier League games under Amorim. Amad Diallo scored a late hat trick to help them defeat Southampton 3-1 last month. Two other league wins were by just one goal. Amad’s last-minute goal against Manchester City and Martinez’s deflected shot against Fulham.
Luck was also on their side in the FA Cup win over Leicester City. Harry Maguire scored the winner in injury time. Replays showed he was offside. Amorim insists he will not change his 3-4-3 formation. This system brought him success at Sporting CP. But his tactics are now facing more criticism.
Micah Richards spoke on Match Day 2. “It’s very hard to adapt when you’ve been playing in a four to go into a three, but as a manager, you have to be able to adapt too. Sometimes you’ve got your way of playing, but can you tweak little things to make players more comfortable? He’s got to stick by his principles and his tactics and take that into next season, but it’s United and we expect results now.”
Gary Neville also criticized the system during their loss to Tottenham. “It breaks all rules of football, it’s absolute madness. The structure of the team is awful, you wouldn’t see this in Under 9s football.”
United’s next game is against Everton. Former boss David Moyes has won as many points in six games with Everton.
