Kyrie Irving’s latest setback is a significant blow to the Dallas Mavericks. The star guard suffered a left knee sprain during Monday night’s 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings. Irving’s injury occurred when his left knee bent awkwardly upon landing from a layup attempt, causing him to fall to the floor in obvious pain.
Despite the discomfort, Irving showed remarkable determination by staying in to take two free throws after drawing a foul. He made both shots but was eventually helped off the court, unable to put much weight on his leg.
The Mavericks are already dealing with multiple injuries, including Anthony Davis’ groin injury and Jaden Hardy’s ankle sprain. With Irving now sidelined, the team’s playoff hopes are under serious threat. Coach Jason Kidd acknowledged the challenge, saying, “It seems every time we get close to getting somebody back, someone goes down. Tonight, both Hardy and Kai go down. So, we’re running out of bodies here”.
Irving’s injury history is a concern, with previous setbacks including a fractured kneecap, shoulder contusions, and various sprains. The Mavericks will likely conduct further medical evaluations to determine the severity of his knee sprain and provide a timeline for his return.
