Having lost 2-1 in the first leg, the Spanish side stage a 3-1 comeback win over Claudio Ranieri’s 10-man Roma.
Nico Williams’ brace and Yuri Berchiche’s goal sealed the qualification for Ernesto Valverde’s side at San Mames.
Roma were dealt a huge blow in the 11th minute, when Mats Hummels was shown a straight red card for a last man foul on Maroan Sannadi.
The hosts capitalised on the advantage to level the tie, as Williams’ deflected strike opened the lead in first-half stoppage time.
Berchiche made it 2-0 with a powerful header in the 68th minute, before turning provider for Williams to cement the victory.
The Spanish winger grab his second of the game, courtesy of a fine individual effort eight minutes from time.
Roma got a goal in the 93rd minute from the penalty spot, after Andoni Gorosabel fouled Stephan El Shaarawy.
However, Leandro Paredes’ stoppage-time penalty was only a consolation for the Giallorossi, as they bowed out of the competition.
Athletic Bilbao will face either of Fenerbahce or Rangers in the quarterfinals next month.
