Karim Benzema will be ending his football journey in Real Madrid after 14 years at the club. He will announce in a press conference on Thursday.

The Ballon d’Or winner’s contract in the Spanish capital expires at the end of the month because there has been no progress toward a renewal. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has disclosed that the Frenchman will make this revelation to the public on Thursday, though rumours say that said he had already informed Real Madrid of his decision to depart for a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, Benzema will earn €400 million (£346 million/$439 million) during the course of a two-year contract with Saudi club Al-Ittihad. This season, the Jeddah club, which finished five points ahead of Al-Nassr, was crowned Saudi Pro League champion. As part of his contract, Benzema will represent his nation’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup.

Benzema joined Madrid from Lyon in 2009 and has won five Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns, among a plethora of other trophies. He has scored 353 goals in all competitions as he clocked up 647 appearances for the club.

In their season-ending match against Athletic Club on Sunday at Santiago Bernabeu, the France international might make his final Madrid appearance.
