Barcelona have booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals after a 5-3 aggregate victory over Borussia Dortmund.

The Catalans advanced despite losing 3-1 to the Germans at the Signal Iduna Park, with Serhou Guirassy scoring an hat-trick

Coming from a 4-0 defeat in the first-leg, Dortmund needed a strong start to overturn the deficit against Barca.

They however got it with the opening goal coming inside the first 11 minutes. Wojciech Szczesmy fouled Pascal Gross inside the penalty area, and Guirassy, with a panenka style, found the back of the net from 12 yards.

Hansi Flick’s side were able to avoid conceding for the remainder of the first half. But just minutes into the second period, Dortmund brought the aggregate deficit back to within two.

Guirassy once again found the back of the net as he headed home from close range following a corner.

Barcelona breathe relief as they got a goal back, courtesy of Ramy Bensebaini’s own goal. Fermin Lopez delivered the ball from the right, and it was turned into his own net by the Dortmund’s defender.

The German team tried to create hope for the home fans as they got another goal on 75 minutes to make it 5-3 on aggregate.

A poor clearance from Ronald Araujo came to Guirassy and the African made no mistake to complete his hat-trick.

The Guinea International has now overtaken Raphinha to become the Champions League’s top goalscorer, with 13 goals.

Fortunately, Barcelona were able to see the match out, to book their spot in the last four of the competition. The will face either of Bayern Munich or Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Sczenesy has finally lost his first match in the Barcelona shirts, after 23 matches without a loss.
