Italian Seria A champions, Napoli has announced the appointment of former Al Nassr and Roma’s boss — Rudi Garcia, as the club’s new coach, replacing Luciano Spalletti.
On Thursday, the announcement of Garcia’s appointment as Napoli’s manager was made, accompanied by a concise statement on social media by the club’s president. Napoli had been in search of a new manager following Spalletti’s departure, as he expressed the need for a break.
Diverse reports had linked out-of-jobs coaches like Luis Enrique, Christophe Galtier and Julian Nagelsmann to the job, but the announcement of Garcia now settles all rumours as regards Spalletti’s successor.
Not revealing the length of his contract, Napoli’s official statement reads: “Aurelio De Laurentiis is happy to announce that Rudi Garcia has been appointed as Napoli head coach.
“The president would like to give him a warm welcome and wish him the best of luck.”
Garcia won 61 of his 118 games in charge of Roma, drawing 34 and losing 23. He continued his career at Olympique Marseille, Lyon and Al-Nassr, where he spent the last season, coaching five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo.
