Wimbledon: Alexander Zverev Knocks Out Gijs Brouwer to reach next round 

Alexander Zverev registered an impressive start at Wimbledon 2023 as he secured a thumping win.

The world number 21 secured a straight-set victory against Netherlands’ Gijs Brouwer in London on Thursday with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.

Zverev was dominating from the beginning as he secured the first set rather comfortably, producing 14 winners in the process.

The second set went all the way down to the tiebreak as neither player lost a service game but the 2020 US Open finalist eventually came out on top. While doing that, Zverev won 81 percent of points on the first serve.

The third set, just like second, was decided on the tiebreak as Zverev produced 16 winners in the process.

The result will be a major boost for the German tennis star who is yet to deliver the goods at Wimbledon. This remains the only Grand Slam where he has never played beyond the fourth-round stage.

His best outing at Wimbledon came in 2017 and in 2021 as on both occasions, he was knocked out after suffering defeats in the fourth round.

In 2017, Zverev lost to Canada’s Milos Raonic in the round of 16 with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 which ended his journey in the competition.

Two years ago, the Hamburg-born lost to Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth-round clash with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4.
