Sam Allardyce has stated that Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United wants something bigger after his proposed transfer to West Ham didn’t go as planned. Maguire was scheduled to transfer from Manchester United to West Ham for £30 million ($38 million) after falling out of favor at Old Trafford.
Negotiations reportedly dragged on because the defender demanded £7 million as a payoff to quit the Red Devils. It was thought that the Hammers eventually became impatient with the wait and backed out of the agreement.
Allardyce, who had previously guided West Ham to Championship promotion, asserted that Maguire did not want to move his base to London Stadium because he lacks faith in the club’s athletic endeavors. He said:
“He turned West Ham down, he’s turned it down. I know his agent really well. I think – and this is no disrespect to West Ham, because I managed them – he feels that with the troubles they had last season down the bottom of the league, he doesn’t want to be going there, he wants something bigger”.
Maguire has been challenged by Erik ten Hag to demonstrate his mettle in order to start games for Manchester United. He is presently fourth in line, after Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Lisandro Martinez as the top two candidates.
Given that United are considering providing Jonny Evans a starting role, his problems could get worse over the next several days. When United and Tottenham square off on Saturday night in London, Maguire might remain on the bench once again.
