Neemias Queta, a centre, has been signed by the Boston Celtics to a two-way contract, the team announced today. The agreement’s terms were kept a secret in accordance with team policy.
For his career, Queta (7-0, 240) has averaged 2.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in 7.5 minutes per game while playing for the Sacramento Kings in 20 NBA games over the course of two seasons (2021-23).
With the Stockton Kings, the Kings G League club, Queta played in 29 games (all starts) and averaged 16.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while also ranking fourth in the G League with 1.9 blocks per game. The product of Lisbon, Portugal, was second in the G League for field goal percentage (.680), earning him a spot on the 2022–23 NBA G League All–Defensive Team and a second-place finish in the Kia MVP vote.
After three seasons at Utah State University, Queta was selected by the Kings with the 39th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draught. With 86 games played (84 starts), the two-time Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year (2019, 2021) averaged 13.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
In addition to winning the USBWA District VIII Player of the Year and Bleacher Report National Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2021, Queta concluded his collegiate career with the most blocks (219) in programme history.
For the 2019 European Championships, Queta, then a sophomore, was chosen to play for the U20 Portuguese National Team. Over six games, he averaged 14.3 points per game and finished third in the competition with 11.0 rebounds per game.
