Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Fulham at the Craven Cottage later today, the Blues’ manager Mauricio Pochettino, beamed his focus on Marc Cucurella, one of the fringe players in his squad, reiterating the defender’s importance in his rebuild.

Pochettino accessed Cucurella’s situation at Stamford Bridge since reuniting with Graham Potter from Brighton & Hove Albion, in a linkup that heavily backfired.

Recall Cucurella was well on his way to Manchester United in the last hours of the summer transfer window, but the Red Devils opted for Sergio Regullion’s loan move instead, having lost Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to injuries.

What Pochettino Said on Cucurella’s Failed Transfer to MUFC

Speaking to the press on the defender’s failed move and current situation, Pochettino said: “After the transfer window closed, we were talking in my office and we were very clear about how I see him and how I assess him.

The Argentine manager continued: “I listened to his feelings. Now it’s about working really hard and waiting for the opportunity. The situation is clear. He is in our plans, and if he deserves to play, he will play.

“It was a difficult time for him when he arrived from Brighton, a tough situation not only for him but for many players, and that is why we need to give him confidence and trust him.

“He was really good against Brighton on Wednesday playing on the right side. He is doing so well. I am so happy with his performance and commitment. That is what we expect from our players.”

Cucurella hasn’t played a single minute in the Premier League this season, but with the current injury crisis ravaging Chelsea’s defence line, the Spaniard might be handed his first start of the season against Fulham tonight.

What to Expect Tonight

Although Pochettino expects their narrow 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup last week to spur his side to victories in subsequent games starting with their noisy neighbours Fulham who are three points clear of the blues.

Their last meeting at the Craven Cottage, it ended in a sour state for Chelsea who were stunned 2-1 by the Cottagers and if similar result is recorded, it will be the first time since 1977.

Currently sitting 12th on the log, three places higher than troubled Chelsea on 15th, can Marco Silva’s men get another over their profligate opponent who’ll be donning a sponsored kit for the first time this season?
