Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag, has shared players’ availability updates ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League game against Galatasaray on Tuesday night.
The Dutchman who faced reporters this afternoon at Carrington spoke specifically about Antony Santos and Lisandro Martinez, both of whom he brought from Ajax to complement his playing style at United.
For Antony, the winger staged his return back to United’s training late last week, after he was excused from his duties amidst the domestic violence allegations levelled against him.
“Antony will be in consideration,” the 53-year-old said.
“Yesterday was his first time in team training. We have a final training [session] and then we’ll make a decision. But he will be in consideration, yeah.”
It’s no longer news that Lisandro Martinez is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to complications from his fractured metatarsal back in April.
If there was any doubt about the severity of the injury, Ten Hag’s confirmation that the Argentine defender will undergo surgery closes the chapter, as MUFC are set for weeks without their top asset.
The manager’s words: “I can confirm, yeah. Licha Martinez will have to undergo surgery. That’s really sad, disappointing news. He has to go through the same process and I’m really sorry for him.
“The squad will miss him. As you know, we have more injuries, so we always have to deal with it as a squad. As a club, we have to deal with injuries.
“He has to be strong. He will fight back, I’m sure. He is a character.
“There is still a long season ahead and he will be fit. We have to do our job, to get ourselves in the right position, so he can contribute, and add quality, when he returns.”
Following their narrow 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena in their first UCL game of the season, Erik Ten Hag’s United will be looking to take all the maximum points when they host Galatasaray at the Old Trafford tomorrow.
