Barcelona are currently dealing with issues off the pitch, with an investigation reportedly opened into agent payment irregularities.
The La Liga defending champions are still in the centre of controversy for payments paid to Jose Mara Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of the refereeing committee for Spanish football. Whereby the alleged case of both bribery and corruption still pending.
However, Barcelona have maintained their innocence, wishing to get their reputation cleared off. Despite taking their ground in the whole process, new evidences have surfaced dragging the incidence of far back 2015.
El Confidencial revealed that the inquiry conducted by the Spanish tax authority revealed that Barca are now the focus in the ongoing investigation.
According to the reports, the payments in question were paid between 2015 and 2018. There are rumours that Josep Maria Bartomeu, who previously served as the club’s president, may have a case to answer. Tax fraud is a serious crime in Spain that attracts huge fines or prison terms as a penalty.
