Jerome Boateng will allegedly continue to practise with the Bayern Munich U23 team after declining offers from Brazil and Russia. Since the beginning of October, the centre defender has been working out with Thomas Tuchel as the team looks for defensive reinforcements.
The German champions, though, came under heavy fire from their supporters, who even threatened to skip their match against Freiburg if they signed the centre back, who had recently been charged with domestic abuse. Bayern had stated following the outcry that they would not be re-signing the defender.
Boateng will now continue to practise with the U23 team to stay match-fit after the refusal. After the international break, the defender might occasionally practise with the first team because there have been whispers of a possible comeback due to the club’s defensive injury problems. The defender reportedly turned down offers from Brazil and Russia in favour of trying his luck with the Bavarians. After the international break, Bayern Munich will play next on October 21 against Mainz.
Kim Min-Jae, Dayot Upamecano, and Matthijs de Ligt, three injured defenders, were supposed to return shortly, according to the club, but it looks like that won’t happen until at least after the international break.
Jerome Boateng’s departure from Bayern Munich was officially announced on 6th of October 2023, despite earlier speculation linking the star to the team.
