Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag, has thrown his full weight behind summer signing Andre Onana who hasn’t had the best start to his career at United.

The Cameroonian joined the Red Devils in a £48 million transfer move after helping Inter Milan to reach the final of the UEFA Champions League last season, before eventually losing to Manchester City.

The Red Devils’ goalkeeper has however conceded 18 goals in 9 games, which has generated a boatload of backlashes and criticisms from fans and pundits alike.

Speaking to MUFC media ahead of their clash against Sheffield United tomorrow, Ten Hag said: “We know and he knows he will do much better. Every player who comes into the Premier League needs an integration period but he has to step up.

“But also big United keepers like Peter Schmeichel, David De Gea, also they started not too good. For Andre, it is good to know, from that little bit of history but also we live now and we live in the future.

“He has to make his future by making better performances. I’m sure he will do that and he has already shown that so many times in big clubs like Barcelona when he was young. [At] Ajax, he was in the semi-final of the Champions League, he was in the final of the Champions League [with Internazionale last season].

“He is a great player and I am sure he will give us performances and I am sure we will have a lot of joy from him.”

Come tomorrow evening by 8 PM, Erik Ten Hag-led Manchester United will be looking to get a win at Sheffield United after coming back from a goal down to snatch a 2-1 win over Brentford before the international break.
