Top seed Daniil Medvedev inch closer to his 21st career title on Saturday aftee defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in a semi-final clash.

The 2021 Us Open champion defeated his Greek opponent 6-4, 7-6(6) to reach the Erste Bank Open final for the second consecutive year in Vienna.

“I served well throughout the whole match,” Medvedev said. “In general I am happy with how I served and put pressure on him on a lot of points. I had a lot of opportunities and he played well on them also. Generally, this pressure paid off at the end of the match.”

The 27-year-old who has already surpassed Carlos Alcaraz (63-9) to have the most wins on the Tour in 2023 will face Jannik Sinner for the title on Sunday after the Italian defeated Andrey Rublev.

Victory also see him improved to 9-4 in his ATP Head2Head series versus Tsitsipas in the Sunday final, he will take on Jannik Sinner or Andrey Rublev with the goal of winning his sixth championship of the year and 65th victory overall.

“I have played both of them in finals. Jannik already three times and Andrey once,” Medvedev said looking ahead to the final. “They have had amazing years. Jannik is finishing really strong so will be interesting to see how the match goes.”

It will be Medvedev’s first successful title defense on the ATP Tour if he wins in Vienna. Despite having won 20 titles at the tour level for singles, he has never won a tournament more than once.

Daniil Medvedev’s opponent in Sunday’s final defeated Andrey Rublev 5-7, 6-7(6) in the second semi-finals on Saturday to reach the final.
