Mason Mount was again left out of the England squad by Gareth Southgate, so he is spending the international break at his hometown. Mount was left off Southgate’s squad for England’s last Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, after his omission from the team for the October internationals.
The 24-year-old has made the decision to spend his vacation time in Portsmouth, where he was born. The Man United midfielder shared pictures of himself and his family taking a stroll at Portchester Castle, which is close to the city, on Thursday. Mount’s difficult start at Manchester United has coincided with his removal from the England squad.
Mount made an Instagram post with a simple caption: “Home.” After United beat Luton last weekend, the midfielder sent supporters a message that read: “We keep building.”
The midfielder, who cost Erik ten Hag’s team £55 million ($68 million) to sign from Chelsea in the summer, has been sitting on the bench more and more of late. Mount’s early season injury undoubtedly made it difficult for him to adjust to his new environment. Since United would not play until Sunday, November 26, against Everton, Mount is probably going to resume training the next week. He will take pleasure in resting at Portsmouth, his hometown, until then. He’ll aim to raise his game in the long run to ensure he makes England’s selection for Euro 2024.
