Liverpool’s captain Virgil Van Dijk, who’s currently firing on all cylinders is happy with being held to high standards at the club, after a resurgence from a dip in his performances.

Since making a switch to the Reds from Southampton back in 2018, Van Dijk has been one of the top performers at the club, but his form last season was evidently below par— prompting criticisms from fans and pundits.

Speaking in his recent interview, the 32-year-old didn’t feel hard done by his critics, as he thinks that being held to a high standard is something he created, and relishes, and anything short of that will be abnormal.

“I’m held to a very high standard and I still am and that’s what I’ve created and I enjoy that. If that’s not the case then something’s not right, but I feel like I am in a good moment physically and mentally and I feel like I am important,” the Netherlands international said.

On his return to form, Van Dijk added: “I just feel very good and I want to keep going.

“For me, what is the most important thing is how I feel, what my teammates feel about me and especially the manager. All the noise from the outside, whether it is very good or very bad, you can’t do anything with it.

“I want to keep improving and I definitely feel I did (this season). Last year saw ups and downs, good games and less good games.”

Liverpool finished outside of the Premier League top four last season, but have taken the bull the horn this season. Currently sitting second on the log with 27 points, the Reds will away to Manchester City who’re on the summit with 28 points after both playing 12 matches.
