Tottenham Hotspur’s winless streak gets stretched to five games on Thursday as their inability to make Premier League points was complimented with vengeance in a 2-1 home loss to West Ham United. Cristian Romero gave Tottenham an early lead in the first half of the derby. However, in the second half, goals from Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse turned the match around.

52 minutes into the game, Bowen equalized when a rebound fell into his path. Then, in the 74th minute, Ward-Prowse scored an odd winner after Destiny Udogie made a mistake. After absorbing some late Tottenham pressure, West Ham—now unbeaten in six games across all competitions—held on for the win, pulling within three points of their London rivals.

Even though Tottenham is still in fifth place with 27 points, they haven’t won since October. And after 10 games, the hope that they would have their best start since 1960 is quickly waning. Tottenham has only taken one point from the last 15 available points, making them the first team in Premier League history to score first in five straight games without winning any of them.

Angry Postecologou told reporters: “We dominated another game of football and didn’t turn that into something more tangible and we kept the opposition in the game. I thought we were poor in both boxes today. At half-time 1-0 was not a good performance by us, a good performance would have been 3-0 or 4-0, with the game put to bed.”

Romero’s red card against Chelsea one month prior set off Tottenham downward, but the Argentine started to turn things around when he headed Pedro Porro’s corner past Lukasz Fabianski and into the net.

Tottenham should have highlighted their superiority with West Ham strangely passive. But they were over-elaborate despite Fabianski having to make sharp saves to keep out shots by Giovani Lo Celso and Brennan Johnson.
