Arsenal are currently at the top of the EPL table; similar record to what they achieved last season in 2022. But powers might change hands in the EPL table if the permutations go as planned. Aston Villa are currently in the third position with 36 points having won all their eight consecutive home games and losing only three matches on the road.

The Unai Emery-led team has defeated giants in the league including the current table toppers Arsenal and defending Champions Manchester City at the Villa Park.

Being in the third position, Aston Villa would be welcoming Sheffield United to the same Villa Park where they have never lost a game and conceded just five goals this evening.

Unai Emery speaks tough

During the press conference ahead of the game, Unai Emery said the match against the relegation-embattled Sheffield United would be treated with a very high technicality.

Villa this season haven’t lost to any relegation-threatened team and tonight’s game might not be an exemption seeing the fact that they might get to the top of the EPL table on Christmas day for the first since 1998.

Permutation

A victory at home against bottom club Sheffield United on Friday and a draw between leaders Arsenal and second-placed Liverpool on Saturday would leave Unai Emery’s team a point clear. It is possible Villa could still be top even if Liverpool win, but they would have to beat Sheffield United by at least six goals.
