AFCON 2023: Sanusi doubtful for Nigeria vs South Africa

There’s now a heavy question mark on the involvement of Zaidu Sanusi in Nigeria’s team to play South Africa later today in the semi-final of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The FC Porto defender according to Complete Sports, was absent from the Super Eagles’ training yesterday evening, as they as they wrapped up preparations for the semi-final clash against the Bafana Bafana at Stade de la Paix at 6 pm (WAT) today.

Reportedly struggling with injuries, Sanusi has still managed to make five appearances for the Super Eagles in Cote d’Ivoire so far, although his performances have drawn heavy criticism from pundits and fans alike.

Sanusi’s possible replacement

Should Zaidu Sanusi not be cleared in time for today’s game, Fenerbahçe’s Bright Osayi-Samuel and Boavista’s Bruno Onyemaechi are the likeliest options Jose Peseiro will give the nod.

As previewed yesterday, the blockbuster fixture between the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana at the Stade de la Paixater today isn’t expected to see plenty of goals, with the most clinical side tipped to make it to the final.
