Jurgen Klopp has been recommended as a successor for Xavi at Barcelona by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang . The Gabonese forward, who played under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund for two seasons, is if the opinion that Barcelona should hire the German manager as Xavi’s successor in the summer.
Both managers declared last month that they will leave their respective clubs at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, and Aubameyang believes Klopp is the best candidate for the top post at Camp Nou, despite his pledge to retire from football.
Speaking on Gerard Romeo’s Twitch account, the former Arsenal striker said: “Klopp gives you everything, energy, he has won great titles, he is a good coach. If there is a chance for Barca he is a good option, I was very comfortable with him in Dortmund. It would be incredible if could come.”
Following a brilliant 2022-23 season in which Xavi led the Catalan giants to Spanish Super Cup and La Liga triumph, Barcelona has experienced a catastrophic downturn. In La Liga, Xavi’s side is eight points behind league leaders and arch-rivals Real Madrid, and they were eliminated from the Copa del Rey early on. They also failed to defend their Super Cup title, losing 4-1 against Real in the final in January.
Klopp, on the other side, has returned Liverpool to the top of the Premier League standings and led them to the Carabao Cup final and the fifth round of the FA Cup. Barcelona returned to form with a win against Alaves over the weekend, and they will face Granada the following Sunday. Six days later, Xavi’s team will face Celta Vigo before returning to the Champions League for the first leg of their last-16 meeting with Napoli.
