Ciro Immobile’s penalty secured a crucial victory for Lazio against 10-man Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 clash, ending Bayern’s unbeaten European run of 10 months.

Coming from a disappointing loss to Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend, Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern started the game brightly, but despite early chances, Harry Kane, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala couldn’t direct their efforts on target.

Lazio showcased defensive resilience while also posing threats in the opening minutes of the encounter, with Luis Alberto particularly coming close to putting the ball past Manuel Neuer before the halftime break

2nd half: Lazio vs Bayern Munich

Lazio started the second half the better side but had to wait until the 67th minute to get a breakthrough as Dayot Upamecano’s high challenge resulted in a red card, earning Lazio a penalty that Immobile calmly converted,

Bayern Munich showed little intention of getting back into the game, as they bowed out of the Stadio Olimpico with zero shots on target—succumbing to their first loss to an Italian side since 2011 when they lost 3-2 at home to Inter.

The Biancocelesti who held on for their fifth consecutive home clean sheet will be at the Allianz Arena in Munich on March 5 for the second leg, where they’ll be looking to possibly complete the upset they started.
